Welcome to Newport Round Table
Newport Round Table is a community organization dedicated to the creative arts, with a strong emphasis on writing.
Since 2004 the Round Table members have worked together to improver creativity through gentle critique and interactive support.
We are published professional authors helping our fellow writers achieve their writing dreams. Our goal is simple – getting our members published.
The Newport Round Table Advanced Writers’ Workshop meets every Wednesday at 7:00pm. This is a paid membership group limited to twelve enrollees. The sessions are eight weeks long and tuition is $80.00, payable by check or money order in advance of the first meeting. Our new session runs from August 31st through October 19th, 2011. We ask that prospective members send a writing sample of 300 words or less to: Melissa.email@example.com.
Q: Who can join NRT?
A: Writers in Southern New England who have reached a level of proficiency with grammar and
punctuation and have moved beyond the basics. Workshop fees are quite reasonable at $80.00 per eight week session.
Q: Can I join the online community only?
A:Yes. Yearly dues are $25.00 and gives members access to the private areas of the website, space on the website for a blog and access to workshops and discounts, as well as the opportunity to consult with published authors.
Q: What happens in the workshop?
A: Members sign-up at the start of the session for two reading slots.
Members then email their work a few days before the meeting to let fellow members read and critique it beforehand.
All members bring copies of the stories they’ve critiqued to that evening’s meeting. Members may write additional comments on their printouts as the author reads the work aloud.
Members discuss the work after each reading, noting strong points, what worked well and what could possibly be improved, keeping the tone positive and supportive. Writers find the diversity of feedback and discussion helpful and often note that the moderators have found and corrected spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors in their work.
Membership in NRT allows writers to have access to the expertise and experiences of published, professional writers.
Authors Mark Ellis and Melissa Martin Ellis are now offering proofing, editing and publishing support. Many members have achieved their goals and become published authors.
Don’t live close enough to particpate in the weekly workshops? We invite you to join our online community. Site membership for Newport Round Table is free to members enrolled in one of our workshops, and available for $25 a year to all others.
